Information on Georgiana^8 Van Wicklen written down in 11 April 1995 letter from Betty Kappstatter to Harry Macy, Jr.
(copy in my possession recd from Harry Macy on 5 July 2000): Sarah Layton Van Wicklen was widowed in 1872 very
young,
with two living children: Georgianna b. 1863 then age 9 and Henry b. 1871 then age 1. Henry lived with her but at some point
Georgianna lived with the Bentley's who were childless. She may have been adopted by them. I have no evidence of this nor
have I searched for any to date. mr. Bentley was planning on leaving his estate to her provided she never married. She did
marry in 1906 (and Betty has copy of m. certificate where she is listed as Georgi V. Bentley) This leads me to believe that no
documentation of who one was was required. Theodore M. May, who she married, was the brother of Flora (May) Van Sise,
wife of Frank Van Sise, who owned the farm and stand on the corner of Jericho Turnpike and South Woods Road in
Woodbury. Georgianna and Theodore had a store on the corner of Convent Road and Jackson Avenue in Syosset. Uncle Ted
was the first person I had ever seen laid out.
Georgianna did not inherit from Mr. Bentley. She spent her last years with her brother Henry and his third wife, Eleanor Scott (Seaman) Van Wicklen in their home in Port Washington, NY. I own Georgianna's gold watch which still runs. I wear it on a neck chain. She had given it to Bentley Van Wicklen (he was Mr. Bentley's namesake) and he to me. I also had in my
possession a small box given to Georgianna by Mr. Bentley that he claimed to have found on a battlefield.
